Digital printing has made it possible for smaller companies to compete with the larger giants, thus separating out from the crowd is essential. Only a brief window of opportunity exists for brands to capture the attention of the shopper reaching for the bag of hot taco tortilla chips in the grocery store aisle.
We’ve put up our forecasts for 2023 packaging design trends after seeing what has been happening both in shops and online and after taking note of what our consumers have been requesting.
One of the first things we learned was that people like packaging that inspires tranquility and, in some circumstances, even nostalgia for a simpler period.
Although buying shouldn’t be unpleasant, there are many instances of muted and complementing colors, plain text, and simple typefaces that give simplicity. There is enough stress in the world enough.
What else is there to anticipate in 2023?
1. Bold fonts
Bold typefaces are popular, however, we’re not claiming comic sans is going to have its big day. In the design world, using typography as the design’s focal point is once again quite popular.

Designers are madly in love with employing the various strong typefaces produced with ambitious aesthetic aspects, which is pushing packaging into new spheres. Some firms will lean more towards sleek packaging driven by text and engaging language with dramatic color contrasts rather than a huge splashy design with a lot of effort spent on over-the-top branding.

2. Minimalism
A different package design concept is minimalism. Years ago, the packaging had to be brash and use vibrant hues like electric blue or orange.

Due to a trend for simplicity, minimalism is making a comeback nowadays, giving customers the impression that your business has nothing to hide. With its simple design and sense of elegance, neat packaging lets the quality of the product speak for itself rather than depending on tricks.
3. Ecstatic colors
Bright, striking colors will make you stand out on grocery store shelves. Nevertheless, if everyone is doing it, you might need to take things a step further. Therefore the current fashion for “ecstatic colors”: is intensely saturated, punchy neons that are both fun, self-assured, and daring.

Currently, we see that this tendency is becoming more common in drink packaging. “With our visual attention more valued than ever, being bold, colorful, and exuberant is taking over,” says Justin Hamra, art director at 99designs by Vista.
studio for strategic design One of the most significant tequila distilleries in Mexico, Casa Centinela, was designed by Human, who also made full use of the trend for exuberant colors. The bold vintage layout that symbolizes the brand’s past served as the basis for these can design for the brand’s RTD drinks, but with a twist in the color scheme that pays homage to Mexican mythology and the vibrant cocktail culture.
4. Customized Packaging
Because of improvements in customization technology and customer desire for “how does this help me?” every business needs to take personalization into consideration when designing packaging. Whether personalization takes the form of unique packaging that targets a particular consumer or designs that address an issue, doing so gives them a more compelling incentive to purchase your goods.
Let’s take the fictitious case of a company that sells high-quality, organic, small-batch roasted coffee. This company makes personalized container boxes from recyclable materials that may be used as tiny plant pots. This brand delivers a tailored experience for the consumer who appreciates at-home leisure when you connect the packaging experience dots.
5. Packaging with Texture
Just a few firms are utilizing the trend of tactile texture in packaging design. Although it seems counterintuitive to be a trend, brand rejection implies it isn’t. Cost is the limiting issue for textured packaging. The supply chain may be slowed down by increased typography, which is not free.
Big-name companies with high product demand should avoid supply chain problems. Also, small companies with little resources should avoid it since they cannot justify the increased expense.
6. The look of sticker books
Every kid enjoys amassing stickers. In order to appeal to our inner kids, particularly those who miss the 1990s, the most recent package design trend has borrowed from that desire. This floating style of composition crackles with irreverent energy by fusing sticker book elements with dynamic color usage. The mood is especially well-liked by Gen Z shoppers due to its emphasis on vivid colors, adorable symbols, drawings, and other similar elements.
7. Complexity and symmetry collide
There is also a need for complex artwork with a symmetrical design that promotes order and cohesiveness to counter the minimalist tendency. Some clients are drawn in by the intricate visual tale that completely contradicts the idea of simplicity.
Whoever decides to take this path will have to compete on their terms and against current market trends, but there may be a significant financial benefit to doing so.

8. Depth challenges the eye
In addition to false depth, which advocates creating three-dimensional images on two-dimensional surfaces utilizing shadows or intricate lighting on the typefaces, other designers have been experimenting with minimalism.
